Bilquis Edhi passes away at 74 in Karachi

  Bilquis Bano Edhi, the widow of renowned humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, died on Friday in Karachi, her son Faisal Edhi confirmed. She was 74. Bilqis was one of the most active philanthropists in the country and co-chaired Edhi Foundation with her son Faisal after her husband’s passing in 2016. She was born in Bantwa, India and migrated to Pakistan after the Partition. Together with her husband their charity has saved thousands of unwanted babies. She had been suffering from cardiovascular disease and was under treatment at a private hospital for the last few days. Bilquis was reported to be in a stable condition on Thursday after she was rushed to the hospital earlier this week when her blood pressure suddenly dropped. The Edhi Foundation Spokesperson Muhammad Bilal had said that though she is not in a serious condition, she will remain in the hospital for a couple of more days, adding that Bilquis had congestive heart failure and already undergone a heart bypass

Railway gets 46 Modern Coaches from China

KARACHI/LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) has received a consignment of 46 high-speed modern coaches from China, paving the way for provision of state-of-the-art travelling facilities to the masses in the country. After receipt of 46 completely built units (CBUs) manufactured in China, PR is set to soon start manufacturing 184 similar coaches (passenger, luggage and brake vans) at its carriage factory in Islamabad in association with Chinese engineers under the technology-transfer component of the 230 coaches’ purchase contract. Similarly, Pakistan Railways would soon receive various consignments of 200 modern goods/freight wagons from China, and after receipt of these wagons, it would start manufacturing 620 wagons of similar designs at its Mughalpura workshop and the carriage factory in Risalpur under the technology-transfer segment of the contract. On the request to increase the Price of Electricity, NEPRA made the Electricity Cheaper In front of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority, the Central Power Purchasing Agency had to be taken. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase the price of electricity by 24 paisa per unit as part of the monthly fuel adjustment. A hearing was held on the request of CCPA under the chairmanship of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Chairman Taseef H. Farooqui. During the hearing, the CPPA officials took the position that 10 billion 37 crore 72 lakh units of electricity were generated in October. The upfront cost was Rs 9.17 while the cost of generating electricity was Rs 9.41. Therefore, in terms of monthly fuel adjustment, the electricity price should be charged 24 paisa more per unit from the consumers.   Snapchat, which avoided the Windows platform with no official apps or support, has finally arrived on the Microsoft Store as a Progressive Web App. According to Windows Central, Snapchat’s Progressive Web App (PWA) will run through Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and 11 PCs. Progressive Web Application (PWA) is a type of web app that can operate both as a web page and mobile app on any device. The app is based on Snapchat’s web version, which was released just a few months ago, and is powered by Microsoft’s Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, according to the report. The app has a tiny 1.4 MB install size, and it ensures that Snapchat is always up to date and has the same features as the web version.
